What is migraine?

It is a chronic, neurological disease characterized by headache that affects the person psychologically and socially. The prevalence rate in the community is 1.4-2.2% in different studies, and it is a common disease.

How does botulinum toxin work in the treatment of migraine?

It has been scientifically proven that botulinum toxin is effective in preventing migraine attacks. Botulinum toxin acts on the cell cytoplasm by binding to the C-fiber terminations at the injection site and blocks the release of CGRP and other neuropeptides. By preventing the release of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides, there is no nerve conduction and headache is prevented and treated.

What are the other neurological diseases that it is used in other than chronic migraine?

It has been scientifically proven that botulinum neurotoxin is effective and safe in the treatment of focal/segmental dystonias, cerebral palsy, stroke, overactive bladder and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

What types of toxins are used in the treatment of chronic migraine?

There are basically 3 types of botulinum toxin that have received FDA approval for the treatment of chronic migraine. Onabotulinum toxin (Allergan), abobotulinum toxin (Dysport), incobotulinum toxin (Xeomin).

Where are the migraine botox points?

Migraine points vary according to the region where the migraine attack is triggered. The muscle groups that we call the corrugator that cause the eyebrows to frown and the proserus muscle are the muscle group that combines to form the area between the eyebrows, which we call the glabellar complex. The first point in migraine injections is this area. Injection points in this area are common with classical facial botox. The second area where migraine botox is applied is the forehead area, which we call the frontal area. Although it is recommended to make injections from 4 points in this area, in order to prevent the eyebrows from rising, injections to the points that prevent the eyebrows from rising, which we call stopper, also provide a good aesthetic result. The third region where the application is made is the temporal area. Injections are made at an average of 4 points in the temporal region. Another application area is the occipital region. In this area, which coincides with the back of the head, an average of 6 points are injected. The cervical paraspinal (nape area) area is the 6th area where injections are made. In this part, the process is generally applied from 4 points. The trapezius is one of the areas where pain starts frequently in the area covering the shoulder heads, and the procedure is usually performed from 6 points. The masseter (chewing) muscle, on the other hand, varies from person to person, but often contributes to headaches due to the problem of excessive clenching and grinding, and botulinum toxin application is required in this area.

Migraine points should be personal and focus on the points where the patient's attack and aura are triggered.

Botulinum toxin administration in migraine disease is an evidence-based, effective and reliable treatment option for the prevention of attacks. You can get information from our clinic for the treatment of migraine with botulinum toxin.
